Grievances and Unit Issues
Nurses on several units-notably 4 Wollman, 5 Uris, 5 Lachman, the Delivery Room, the MEETH 5th floor, and the ER-are consistently unable to take breaks. Previous class action grievances have produced no changes. A new class action grievance has been filed, and the delegates have voted to take the issue to arbitration if necessary.
Nurses in MICU and SICU are being required to take breaks one at a time, resulting in breaks being scheduled from almost the beginning of the shift to the end. Union delegates are currently in discussions with management in an effort to resolve the issue without recourse to the grievance procedure.
Management agreed to reinstate an RN who was unjustly terminated for an alleged violation of the attendance policy.
Case Managers
NYPNU has won recognition as the representative of the RN Case Managers. NYPNU leadership will meet with the Case Managers at 1:00pm and 4:00pm on February 4th to discuss issues involved in bringing them under the current contract.
Nurse Practitioners
A petition to represent Nurse Practitioners at Lenox Hill has been submitted to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). NYPNU and hospital management are attempting to work out an agreement before going to an NLRB hearing.
